The machine comprises a frame (F) for holding a tire to be checked and a grinding mechanism (10) which includes a grinding head (30) with front (32) and rear (34) grinding discs relative to the tire rotation. The discs can be selectively positioned against the tire (T) for removal of material and are rotated by motors (35) located close to the grinding head. Preferred Features: The grinding mechanism has a holder (12) with bearings (18) supporting an arm (16) carrying the grinding head (30). A linear power unit (20) moves the arm axially to bring the discs in contact with a tire (T).
