The exhaust silencer box has a casing (2) inside of which is located a pressure drop pipe (4) which has perforations in its wall. A vortex generating element (6) is located along a considerable length of the pressure drop pipe, and a pipe section (7) connected to the inlet and outlet side of the casing lets exhaust gas in and out of it. The vortex generating element may have a zigzag configuration or serpentine line configuration along a considerable part of its length. An insulating material fills the space between the casing and pressure drop pipe.
