The method involves acquiring ambiguous phase signals in relation to shaft rotation using associated sensors (5) and an evaluation unit, summing at least two phase signals in weighted manner, forming a non-even component of the summed signal proportional to the angle difference and determining the torque on the shaft by multiplying the angle difference by the spring rate of the torsion rod.
