The device (1) has bending jaws (13.1,13.2) for the stapler arms, pivoted towards each other by a stroke unit (2,3). The bending jaws are mounted on the stroke unit via a common compensation element (15), so that a compensation movement in stroke direction between the bending jaws is generated, when these are pivoted to bend and flatten the arms ends (WE) of a staple. The compensation element is held pivoted on a central bearing point (21) of the stroke unit. Both element ends are each loosely connected to a push element (14.1,14.2).
