The method involves using an optical imaging system to form images of a number of holographically recorded pixels on a number of camera pixels forming a data page, whereby an image of each holographically recorded pixel is formed on a field of at least two adjacent camera pixels and an output signal from the camera pixel fields is used to compute a position error signal. Independent claims are also included for the following: a system for producing a position error signal in a recording system for holographically represented data.
