The coding method has the detected patient data converted into a different format before coding using a difference coding method, e.g. a MPEG coding method and transmission to an analysis device (40) for comparison with stored data. The data coding device (25) can be coupled to a recording and display device (12) for the detected patient data, e.g. ECG data. An Independent claim for a system for checking physiological data is also included.
