A plasma lamp (34) placed within a microwave chamber (20), is excited by the microwave generators (12,14) to emit ultraviolet radiation. Two longitudinally extending reflectors placed within chamber, reflect a portion of ultraviolet radiation for radiating the back side of a fiber optic cable. An Independent claim is included for method of treating coating on fiber optic cable.
