Liquid crystal display (LCD) projector, includes a light source, a color separating unit, a LCD panel for modulating the separated red- blue- and green-light components, an output side polarization plate arranged on one light output side of the LCD panel, a color combination unit for combining the modulated light beams, and a projecting lens for projecting the combined light beams. The input side polarization plate and/or output side polarization plate have a first polarization element which is provided on the light input side with a glass substrate, and a second polarization element which is provided on the light output side of the glass substrate.
