Sensor comprises a rod-shaped soft magnetic material sensor part (17), with a ring of low resistance electrically conducting material, connected to the moving adjustment element. A fixed coil arrangement (18) surrounds the sensor rod with coils connected to a signal detection circuit (19) in the form of a measurement bridge with a carrier frequency. The sensor rod has means for reducing interference voltages. Different designs of the end surface of the sensor rod can be used, e.g. a narrow pointed end, to damp out acoustic sound waves travelling through the sensor body.
