Thermoplastic polymer, especially polyolefin, e.g. for outdoor use as roof membrane, greenhouse film or agricultural mulch, contains specified flame retardant and hindered amine light stabilizer

The use of a flame retardant combination for making (a) thermoplastic polymer weatherproof and flame-retardant is claimed. The combination comprises (b) flame retardant based on melamine and/or ammonium polyphosphate, bis-(hexachlorocyclopentadieno)-cyclooctane, tris-(2,3-dibromopropyl) isocyanurate, ethylene-bis-tetrabromophthalimide, 1,2,5,6,9,10-hexabromocyclododecane, ethane-1,2-bis-(pentabromophenyl) and (c) hindered amine light stabilizer. The use of a flame retardant combination for giving (a) thermoplastic polymers both weatherproof and flame-retardant properties is claimed. The combination comprises: (b1) flame retardants based on melamine and/or ammonium polyphosphate, (b2) bis-(hexachlorocyclopentadieno)-cyclooctane, (b3) tris-(2,3-dibromopropyl) isocyanurate, (b4) ethylene-bis-tetrabromophthalimide, (b5) 1,2,5,6,9,10-hexabromocyclododecane, (b6) ethane-1,2-bis-(pentabromophenyl) and (c) a hindered amine light stabilizer (HALS) of the hydrocarbyloxyamine or, except with (b4), hydroxyhydrocarbyloxyamine class. Independent claims are also included for: (1) a process for producing light-fast and flame-retardant properties in a thermoplastic polymer by adding a combination of (b3) and (c); (2) various flame-retardant compositions stabilized against the harmful effects of light and optionally weather; and (3) molded or extruded articles made from these compositions.
