The fuel injection nozzle includes a nozzle needle (22) held closed by a spring (24), a pressure chamber (30) upstream of the needle, and a deflection piston (26) installed at the needle spring end furthest from the needle. A means of damping is provided and designed in such a way that the movement of the deflection piston takes place cavitation-free. The degree of damping of the piston's movement increases as the piston gets nearer to the corresponding end position. The means of damping limit a maximum speed of the deflection piston.
