To produce signature yarns, where a controlled signature medium (1) is applied to the yarn (2) to prevent forgery, the signature medium is prepared in a heated supply container (3) and held at a constant temperature. The viscosity of the signature medium is set at a constant level by applied heat and mechanical energy. The container is held at a pressure of 0.5-10.0 bar, for the medium to be fed to a controlled jet (4), aligned at the moving yarn which travels at a selected speed past the jet, and at a constant yarn tension. The yarn is coated with the signature medium by a piezo actuator (6) controlled jet opening/closing action, and the coated yarn is passed to a finishing stage (5).
