The device is for changing the geometric compression ratio of an engine with a connecting rod (7) mounted on a crankpin (10) by an eccentric bearing ring (9) which is rotatable between a first minimum compression ratio position and a second maximum compression ratio position. A rotation device (35) has a section connected by form or mechanical locking to the bearing ring and is in the form of a ramp (25). The section of the rotation device is connected to an edge flange (13) on the bearing ring and preferably acts upon the circumferential face of the flange.
