Method in which a coating (3) is illuminated with laser light (2) in order to excite fluorescence agents contained in the lubricant. From the measured emitted fluorescence light (5), the coating thickness (7) of the dry lubricant is determined. An Independent claim is made for a dry lubricant, especially for application to aluminum sheet with the dry lubricant containing a fluorescing agent for use in measuring its thickness.
