Prodn. comprises (a) making a paste (IV) from a powder mixt. (V) of the components of (Bi,Pd)-Sr-Ca-Cu-O system (II) and a liq. organic binder (VI), (b) applying (IV) to elongated support (III), heating to expel the organic constituents (VII) and consolidate and (c) carrying out at least 2 calcination stages, with forming stage(s) between these. 4-30 (wt.)% Ag is added to (V), (IV) contains 55-85% (V). At least the first calcination is carried out in a reaction zone at elevated vapour pressure of the Pb component. Pref. 5-20% Ag is added to (V) and (IV) contains 60-75 (V). The compsn. of (V) is such that (II) has 3 Cu planes/unit cell. In calcination, the atmos. contg. Pb pref. satd. with Pb, is produced in zone contg. an additional Pb supply. A pressure of 2-100 pref. 5-50 kbar is used for consolidation of (IV), before or after removing (VII), and for forming. The calcination temp. is 820-850 pref. 830-840 deg.C. USE/ADVANTAGE - (I) is useful as high temp. superconductor (HTS). (I) with a relatively high critical current density can be made easily and on the large scale.
