The machine comprises a pedal having a pedal adjustable length member whereby a first pedal support member is operably associated with a second pedal support member to have adjustable distance between pedal support pivots. There is a rocker rotatably attached to the second pedal support member on one end and rotatably connected to an upright support member. There is an upright support rotatably connected to the rocker and pivotally connected to a frame and maintained rigid in one or more different positions relative to a frame during operation by a lock. There is a frame with a first support member and a second support member, whereby an adjustment controls the position of the second support member relative to the first support member. There is a lock on each pedal maintaining the first pedal support members and the second pedal support members in fixed positions relative to each other until the locking members are released to allow the second pedal support members to move relative to the first pedal support members, whereafter the upright support locking member is released and the adjustment member is adjusted to collapse the exercise machine.
