PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the contrast, visibility and moisture resistance by specifying the glass transition temp. or decomposition temp. of a polymer material for a liquid crystal/polymer composite film containing a liquid crystal in a polymer matrix and preparing the material as insoluble with water. ;SOLUTION: This polymer material is used to form a liquid crystal/polymer composite film having a liquid crystal in a polymer matrix. The glass transition temp. or decomposition temp. of the polymer material is specified to ≥150°C, and the polymer material is soluble with an org. solvent but insoluble with water. Further, it is preferable that the polymer material is incompatible with the liquid crystal and has phase separation property, and the polymer material is not dyed with a dichromatic dye. Moreover, the differential function of the display density of the liquid crystal/polymer composite film comprising the polymer material above described against the storage temp. shows a sharp peak. In this function, it is preferable that the temp. corresponding to the max. of the function differs by ≤20°C from the phase transition temp. of the liquid crystal used and that the half width of the function is ≤10°C.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1997,JPO
