The system uses a calculated time interval between firing of the charges to regulate the barrel speed. The procedure for firing a projectile (9) with the aid of a launcher (1) and propulsive charge makes use of at least two separate charges (10,11). These are constructed separately in order to be capable of being fired separately at chosen intervals in order to vary the range of the projectile. The first charge is fired in order to start the launch of the projectile, and then after one ore more time intervals, the second (and subsequent) charge(s) are fired. The time intervals between the firing of the charges are calculated in order to provide a chosen range for the fired projectile. An option also exists to fire the two charges simultaneously, the firing being electrically initiated and controlled. In an alternative arrangement, the second charge may be linked to the first by a self-destructing pyrotechnic delay.
