The procedure, in which a bottle is packed in a close-fitting sleeve of a synthetic textile material, consists of manufacturing the sleeve (4) to the appropriate shape, heating the sleeve in a hot air tunnel (28) to soften it before placing it on the bottle, and then pressing the edges of the sleeve's aperture together. The heating stage uses air at a temperature of 70 - 130 deg C applied for 5 - 15 sec, and the pressure is applied to the sleeve edges by supple pads on the ends of arms (34, 36) while the bottle is supported by a cradle (30).
