The disc brake consists of two annular brake plates (21,22) joined by an element to give an air gap between them. The first plate (21) is joined to the hub (11) whilst the second (22) has a radial extension (24) towards the axis (A) of the disc away from the rubbing zone (29) of that plate. This extension acts as a heat sink to give a more even temperature through the plates to prevent surface distortion.
