Process for the fractionation of essential oils by contact with a fluorinated solvent and separation of fractions from the fluorinated and non-fluorinated phases

Separation of terpenic hydrocarbons from functionalized compounds or elimination of toxic compounds using fluorinated, preferably perfluorinated, solvents with high selectivities. Process for the fractionation of essential oils, or fractions of essential oils, by contacting the oil with a fluorinated solvent. Fluorinated and non-fluorinated phases are obtained and the essential oil fractions contained therein can be separated. The fluorinated solvent may be chosen from aliphatic perfluoroalkanes of formula CnFn+2, perfluoroalkanes with a cyclic motif of formula CnF2n, perfluoroalkanes with 2 cyclic motifs of formula Cn'F2n'-2 or perfluoro N-methylmorpholine, C5ONF11. n = 5-15; n' = 8-15.
