The method of monitoring a pressure sensor (38) of a motor vehicle internal combustion engine (10) involves checking the sensor which is indirectly the cause of the fault (md) and deliberately putting the engine in a controlled state in which the sensor is not the cause of the fault (md) and verifying if the same fault is produced. The sensor can be deliberately cut out during the control functioning period.
