A line of workstations includes a thermoformer making shells (11) from plastic film (1) and a filler (120) introducing the notes into them. A lidding station (150) for the openings (13, 14) employs a second film (2). A cutting station separates completed packs. A central control system steps a periodic advance at all stations. Mobile articulated grips on a side carriage move to an fro between the work stations, acting selectively on edges of the film. Further grips work in cooperation with the reciprocating carriage.
