The distance surveillance system has a telephone network and telephones. The system has a first contact button (E) set by a keyboard (C1) selecting a listening function. An electronic memory (10) records the telephone number (N1) for which surveillance monitoring is wanted. There is a comparator (11) between the telephone number being monitored comparing the number being monitored and that identified (N2). The wanted telephone can be called from any telephone.
