Method for carrying out in vitro diagnosis of milk samples for detecting inflammation of the mammary glands of female mammals by measuring the milk conductivity and comparing it with milk previously taken from the mammal. The milk sample is taken purely form one teat and is the milk taken in the first few jets during milking. An Independent claim is made for a device for detecting inflammation of the mammary glands using in vitro diagnosis of milk samples.
