The electric kettle has a movable jug (2) removable placed on a base (1) and with an electrical heating element (4) fed with power from the base. A signal representing information about the kettle is transmitted between the jug and base via a connector (5). The jug has an analogue based cyclic connection generator (10) producing a variable output as a function of the information.
