A process for hydrocyanation of ethylenically unsaturated organic compounds involves a reaction between hydrogen cyanide and a compound with at least one ethylenic bond in the presence of a metallic catalyst containing a monophosphanor-bornadiene- type ligand. A process for hydrocyanation of ethylenically unsaturated organic compounds involves a reaction between hydrogen cyanide and a compound with at least one ethylenic bond in the presence of a metallic catalyst containing a monophosphanor-bornadiene- type ligand of formula (I): E = O or S; n = 0 or 1; R1, R4, R5, R6 = H, 1-40C aliphatic hydrocarbyl(optionally unsaturated), possibly containing a heteroatom, carbocyclic or heterocyclic(optionally unsaturated or aromatic, mono- or polycyclic) or aliphatic with attached carbocyclic or heterocyclic; or R4, R5 may form a 5-7C carbocyclic monocycle(optionally unsaturated); R2 = H or X; R3 = X or Y (only one of R2 and R3 is X); X = 2-20C carbocyclic or heterocyclic aromatic(mono- or bicyclic), 2-12C 1-alkenyl or 1-alkynyl (optionally with one or more supplementary unsaturations), -CN, ((1-12C) alkyl)carbonyl, ((3-18C)aryl)-carbonyl, ((1-12C) alkoxy)carbonyl, ((6-18C) aryloxy)carbonyl, carbamoyl, ((1-12C) alkyl)-carbamoyl or (di(1-12C) alkyl)carbamoyl; Y = as for R1, with exception of H; and R7 = as for R1, R4, R5 and R6 or hydrocarbyl with a carbonyl function. Alternatively R7 may represent a radical of formula (II) or (III): A = H, 1-10C alkyl, 6-10C aryl or (6-10C) aryl-(1-10C) alkyl in which the aryl is optionally substituted by at least one of 1-6C alkyl or alkoxy, trifluoromethyl, halogen, di(1-6C) alkylamino, (1-6C) alkoxycarbonyl, carbamoyl, (1-6C) alkylaminocarbonyl and di(1-6C)-alkylaminocarbonyl; Ar1, Ar2 = radical of formula (IV) or (V) optionally substituted; Z = one or more substituting groups from 1-6C alkyl or alkoxy, trifluoromethyl, halogen, 1-6C alkoxycarbonyl, alkylaminocarbonyl, di(1-6C) alkylamino or di(1-6C) alkylaminocarbonyl; and R8, R9 = aryl(optionally substituted). Independent claim are also included for: (1) an improved process using an additional cocatalyst; and (2) an isomerization process.
