A method for coloring minerals consists of exposing a mineral to a beam (22) of accelerated electrons propagated in a gaseous medium, then progressively cooling the mineral in the gaseous medium to ambient temperature, then cooling the mineral in a liquid to a temperature below ambient, then draining the mineral at least partially in a gaseous medium and repeating the process a number of predetermined times as a function of the desired spectrophotometric characteristics. An Independent claim is also included for an installation for the coloring of minerals by this method.
