Access control for a monitored zone of a casino, checks the entrants identity card against pre-selected criteria

The control method applies access criteria in which a persons access document/card data is collected and the access criteria is checked against the persons collected data. Access is authorized if the access criteria is satisfied, otherwise an alarm is triggered, and the collected data is suppressed. Before collecting the data from the person requiring access, the type of data document presented is identified. The latter stage includes searching in the document for a characteristic of each of several types of pre-selected identity parts collected from a zone chosen as a function of the type of identity part recognized. The pre-selected identity parts include old and new types of identity card. When the access criteria is satisfied a ticket is printed which contains data used for application of access criteria. Passage towards the monitored zone is authorized when access criteria is satisfied, by suppression of an infrared beam which then allows passage from the controlled zone to the casino/
