The cylinder, especially as the detaching or worker roller at a card, has a cylinder body (1) which is hollow at least at the end zones (2). It is mounted on rotary bearings, within the hollow zones and at a gap from the ends by carrier tubes (11) held at one side outside the cylinder body, and extending into the body of the cylinder. The cylinder roller, e.g. for a card, has the rotary bearings within the cylinder body at a gap from the ends which is about 22.3% of the cylinder length. The cylinder body is of a plastics material with fiber reinforcement, or it is of carbon fibers. The rotary bearing has a metal bush (4) within the cylinder body, to carry a flange (5) supported axially on a shoulder (3) within the cylinder body. A bearing body (6), in a truncated cone shape, is fitted into the truncated cone seating at the bush and clamped in place, to give internally the outer bearing running surface (8). The bearing pin (10) is at the outer end of the carrier tube, at it or formed by it, with a truncated cone shape facing the running surface. The bearing rollers (9) are between them. The bearings for a doffer roller have a mounting lock (12,13) to prevent an axial separation between the bearing body and the bearing pin., as a block against a ring groove. One bearing body has a coupling (17) to act with the drive shaft (19,21) through the roller as a socket to take an out-of-round section of the drive shaft.
