The walking or alpine stick (1) has a longitudinal profile (4) with a handle (OP) at its top and a grip at its base. The handle is adjustable in height on the profile and the adjuster has a lock (OS) which positions the handle on the profile. The lock can have a locking pin (16) which engages with the profile.
