The unit has a combustion chamber (12) in a rotary cylinder (14) with a reciprocating piston (16). Inlet and exhaust are at one end (40) of the cylinder. The piston drives a crankshaft (24), which is coupled by a gear (28) to the end of the cylinder. A rotor winding (22) is attached to the outside of the cylinder, facing a stator winding (24) in a cylindrical housing (26).
