Method relates to a device in which image data are converted on a pixel by pixel basis referring to a color conversion characteristic and an image converted into color is displayed. An iterative process is followed in which input values are converted and compared with a desired result. When the result is close enough to the desired result the color conversion characteristic is output. An Independent claim is made for a display device with a means for conserving a color conversion characteristic.
