The burner comprises a cylinder (2) provided with a wick height adjustment lever (1), an extinguishing plate (6) which rotates on a chassis (5) and a cartridge reservoir. A fastening bracket (10) is mounted on the front part of the principal body (A). An extinguishing lever (30) has a long slot (31) at one end and a folded pressure plate (32) at the other end. A spring (40) connected to the extinguishing lever and the bracket rotates the lever when the cartridge reservoir is removed so that the pressure plate is raised whilst the long slot is lowered. A ring (50) is connected to the slot and to the extinguishing plate so that it can be operated independently in order to extinguish the flame when the reservoir is removed.
