A sulfur-vulcanizable elastomer composition is based on diene elastomer(s), a reinforcing white filler and bis-alkoxysilane tetrasulfide (I) as coupling agent between the filler and elastomer. A sulfur-vulcanizable elastomer composition is based on diene elastomer(s), a reinforcing white filler and a bis-alkoxysilane tetrasulfide of formula (I) as coupling agent between the filler and elastomer. R1 = 1-4C alkyl or 2-8C alkoyxalkyl; R2, R3 = 1-6C alkyl or phenyl; x = 3-5. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) Tires and tire treads incorporating the composition. (2) A method of making the tire or tire tread using the composition by (a) adding an inorganic reinforcing filler and the coupling agent to a diene elastomer in a mixer, (b) mixing one or more times until a temperature of 110-190 deg C is attained, (c) cooling to below 100 deg C, (d) adding a vulcanization system, (e) mixing to a temperature below 110 deg C and (f) calendering or extruding into a desired form.
