Determining the permeability of a rock medium comprises applying a magnetic field to the fluid (2) in the rock medium (1). The variation in pressure of the interstitial fluid resulting from the application of the magnetic field is measured and the permeability of the rock medium is determined. An Independent claim is included for a permeability determining device.
