The bar bending machine, comprising a plate (14) with a central spiral (17) to grip one end of the bar (19), and a lever (15) with a roller (16) to apply a pressure to the bar, has the roller made with an angled recess (26) enabling a bar of square or rectangular section to be bent by applying a pressure to one of its edges. The roller is in two assembled sections with flat and recessed surfaces, the recess (26) having two faces, each lying at an angle of 45 deg to the vertical. In a variant of the design the recess can be made in a shaping piece fitted between the roller and the bar.
