Essential oil mixture for destruction of poultry red mite (Dermanyssus gallinae) amp; its eggs based on eucalyptus oil, citronellol, terpinen-4-ol amp; myrica gale

A novel formulation of essential oils, which has been named 'ARD 75' and is composed as follows: SL LI ¦ eucalyptus oil: 1 part LI ¦ citronellol: 1 part LI ¦ terpinen-4-ol: 0.25 part LI ¦ oil of IMyrica gale/I: 0.25 part LI ¦ organic seaweed surfactant: Iquantum sufficit/I, /SL is described which act synergistically to prevent the development of eggs of the poultry red mite, IDermanyssus gallinae/I (illustrated in Figure 1). In addition, the formulation is toxic against adult mites, resulting in death within minutes of exposure (illustrated in Figure 2). The oil-based formulation can be applied with a brush, or converted to an emulsion for spray-application by simple homogenisation with water and an appropriate detergent. Each component is of 'Food and Fragrance' quality, used in the perfume- and food industry. The formulation is neither toxic to chickens nor to handlers, and does not taint chicken eggs.
