Turbine disc with circumferential blade-mounting slot

A turbine disc has a circumferential slot having an undercut profile defining convex ribs 16,18 for the retention of dovetail blade roots. To allow the blades to be loaded into the slot, arcuate bights 22,24 are provided in the ribs 16,18. To relieve hoop stress concentrations, while minimising crush stress on blade roots "shadow slots" 32,34,36,38 are defined by arcuate surfaces in the ribs, the radius of curvature of these surfaces being greater (eg. eight times greater) than that of the bights 22,24. The depth of the slots 32,34,36,38 may also be less than that of the bights 22,24.
