Pressure relief valve in mains water supply system

A water supply system includes a normally closed pressure relief valve which, in use, opens to release excess water pressure when it exceeds a predetermined level. Preferably the valve includes a closure member (7) which is urged closed by spring force (11) and held in the axis of an opening by a support rod (10). The pressure at which the valve is opened may be changed by adjusting the position of a threaded bolt (6). The system may further include a pressure gauge (16, Figure 1) for monitoring water pressure. One advantage of such a system is to reduce the incidence of pipe damage and water discolouration.
