The present invention relates to a method of monitoring disease progression or the impact of therapeutic intervention in an asthmatic patient. The method comprises measuring the concentration of tenascin, matrix metalloproteinase (MMP-2), collagen VI or laminin in BAL (bronchoalveloar lavage) fluid from said patient.
