Virucidal amp; bactericidal composition comprising a dry mixture of an inorganic halide amp; an oxidising agent to generate hypohalite ions on dissolution in water

A dry, water-soluble biocidal and particularly virucidal composition comprises a system of an inorganic halide and an oxidising agent generating hypohalite ions therefrom in aqueous solution. It preferably contains two surfactants and two dyes to indicate ready for use. The preparation contains no organic acids, and may be in powder form. The oxidising agent is preferably a persulphate salt (especially the potassium triple salt 2KHSOSB5/SB.KHSOSB4/SB.KSB2/SBSOSB4/SB and may constitute about 61-65 % of the composition by weight). The halide is preferably potassium chloride and may constitute about 25-28.5% of the composition by weight. Two preferred surfactants are sodium alkyl benzene sulphonate and sodium alkyl sulphate. The composition, on dissolving in water, is biocidally active against viruses and bacteria, and may be used in a farming environment.
