摘要
A surveillance method comprises monitoring a location by imaging device, transmitting generated image data to a receiving location where it is reviewed, then sending data resulting from this reviewing to the imaged location or a location in communication with it. An embodiment system uses a camera to scan a target area for a vehicle number plate, and also information such as the colour of the vehicle and details about the occupant. This information may be displayed locally to the camera, allowing for inspection by police and so on, at the camera site. In addition, camera output information is transmitted, via a wireless link, to a central database system, for example allowing for comparison of scanned number plates with a database of stolen vehicles. In the event that a stolen vehicle is identified, this information is transmitted back to the monitoring site so that local action may be taken. Further embodiments use satellite positioning (GPS) to track the stolen vehicle (Figure 2), or allow for mounting of the scanning camera in a tracking vehicle, with information being fed to the tracking vehicle to identify the profile or physical features of a person (Figure 4) or vehicle (Figure 5) after scanning. Alternatively, as shown in Figure 6, the device may provide an on-board vehicle 'black box' recording system, using comparison with a central database. In a final embodiment, the system may operate using a mobile telephone, allowing an individual in the field to be identified.
