Gas injection controlling liquid slugs in pipeline riser

A method for neutralising slugging in a hydrocarbon pipeline riser carrying a gas-liquid multiphase fluid involves injecting gas at the base of the riser in volume proportional to the flow rate variation with time of the gas phase of the fluid when the variation is positive. The injection volume may be equal to he flow rate. A device for neutralising slug formation comprises gas injection means connected to the base of the riser, means for measuring the gas phase flow rate and a computer to control gas injection.
