PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform a process for displaying one image data with various resolution fast without increasing the total storage capacity of the device. ;SOLUTION: The device is provided with a data dividing means 1 and a data storing means 3 which divide inputted source image data into resolution components, and rearrange and store them hierarchically in a storage area of a storage medium 4 so that components of the same resolution come together. Then one source image data are divided previously into resolution components, which are stored hierarchically on the recording medium 4; for example, if a display of an image of certain resolution is requested, only data on the resolution components needed to actualize the requested resolution are only read out without performing any troublesome process such as a resolution converting process, so that the image of the said requested resolution can be obtained.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1998,JPO
