PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the collation method of image data capable of maintaining the accuracy of collation even for the data of images not clear enough. ;SOLUTION: A definition part 3 defines plural areas in first image data 1a, and an extraction part 4 extracts a maximum correlation area which is an area provided with maximum correlation with the area from second image data 1b for the respective plural areas defined by the definition part 3. Since the areas defined in the definition part 3 and the maximum correlation areas extracted in the extraction part 4 corresponding to the areas are literally provided with the maximum correlation, it is estimated that the image included in both areas are provided with the same feature graphic. A judgement part 5 respectively checks the position relation of the plural areas defined by the definition part 3 with each other and the position relation of the maximum correlation areas extracted by the extraction part 4 with each other, decides the degree of the similarity of both image data, based on the difference of the position relation of both and outputs a decided result 2.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2000,JPO
