PURPOSE:To produce a glycoprotein substance having activity capable of maintaining existence and mobility of sperm. CONSTITUTION:A glycoprotein substance is separated and removed from a mammalian oviduct and has chemical and physical properties and physiological activity such as about 90,000 molecular weight (by SDS-electrophoresis method using 10% polyacrylamide as a support medium), possession of affinity for wheat embryo affinity chromatography and retention of existence and mobility of sperm. Since the glycoprotein substance has activity for maintaining existence and mobility of sperm, the glycoprotein substance is useful as an additive for a sperm storing solution or a medium for external fertilization.
