PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To correctly recognize character objects including noises of stains or others when using the most similar character pattern as a recognition result between a feature utilizing a black pixel connection length from a regulated input character pattern and a standard feature vector of each character pattern in a recognition feature standard dictionary.;SOLUTION: A feature extraction part 1-4 calculates a feature vector utilizing the black pixel connection length from the input character pattern regulated for every character. An identification part 1-7 compares the feature vector with the standard feature vector in the recognition feature standard dictionary 1-8 and recognizes the input character pattern. Herein, a deterioration degree measurement part 1-3 scans the regulated input character pattern, finds the number of black pixels from a scanning range, and finds the degree of deterioration of the number of black pixels due to a difference value from the standard character pattern in the standard pattern dictionary 1-5. A deterioration correction part 1-6 calculates a correction coefficient based on the degree of deterioration, corrects the black pixel connection length of the feature extraction part 1-4 using the correction coefficient and delivers this corrected value as a new black pixel connection length.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
