PURPOSE: To use a partially nickel-plated carbon fiber non-woven fabric as a core body for holding a hydrogen storage alloy. CONSTITUTION: A core body used has a function accelerating an oxygen gas reducing reaction, and quicky reduces oxygen gas generated in a positive electrode in overcharge. By using this electrode as a negative electrode of an alkaline storage battery, the alkaline storage battery with less increase in internal pressure of the battery in overcharge and high reliability can be obtained.
