PURPOSE: To provide a polymerizer in which the polymerization reaction can be terminated in a shortened time only by adding a reduced amount of a polymerization inhibitor even in a large-scale reactor, thus the reactor can be safely operated, even when any abnormal reactions occurs or the cooling system gets in out of order and a polymerization termination method using the same. ;CONSTITUTION: During the polymerization reaction of vinyl chloride monomers in a polymerizer provided with an almost cylindrical polymerization vessel 1 having the straight cylinder part of more than 100m³ capacity, 1.5 or more L/D ratio (D is the inner diameter and L is the length of the straight cylinder part), a cooling system 2 for cooling the content of the polymerization vessel, the paddle blades 5 which are arranged in three or more steps along the center line of the cylinder of the vessel and driven around the center line to agitate the content in the vessel and the inlets 7 for charging the polymerization inhibitor at the positions corresponding to the steps of paddle blades on the outer surface of the vessel, a polymerization inhibitor is charged from the inlets 7 into the polymerization vessel 1.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1996,JPO
